Young switch off to marketing via text messaging

Younger people are more likely to get irritated and annoyed by

companies sending unsolicited text messages to their mobile phones than

the older generation.

But they are also more likely to receive them, according to research for

Marketing by Taylor Nelson Sofres.

Forty-six per cent of 16- to 24-year-olds said they get irritated by

these messages, compared with only 18% of 55- to 64-year-olds and 6% of

over-65s. Most 55- to 64-year-olds never receive such messages, compared

with 23% of 16- to 24-year-olds.

Scottish consumers are less likely to receive unsolicited text messages

than their English counterparts. Only 23% of respondents in East Anglia

never receive messages, compared with 51% north of the border.
