Centrica has promoted Goldfish marketing manager Justin Henderson
to head of marketing for a new business division, which is aimed at
building the group's brands among small- and medium-sized
Henderson will report to managing director Chris Weston, whose previous
job was as managing director of One.Tel, the telecoms business that was
acquired by Centrica earlier this year. Henderson was unavailable for
comment as Marketing went to press.
The division represents a significant development for Centrica, which
has focused most of its efforts on building the AA, Goldfish and British
Gas as consumer brands.
Henderson's brief will be to explore strategic opportunities for
promoting the group brands to SMEs. Centrica currently has around
500,000 SME customers, mainly within its gas and electricity services,
and wants to tap into a greater number of the three million-strong
The establishment of the SME division could lead to the creation of
business-specific sub-brands that have greater relevance to Centrica's
SME customer base.
Centrica's ambition to become a complete provider of home services has
been spearheaded by its group marketing director, Simon Waugh.
This week, the AA announced it had appointed M&C Saatchi, ehsrealtime
and Rapier to handle its estimated £40m marketing communications
