The 2008 ImagePower Green survey showed that the UK's biggest grocers accounted for five of the top six green brands. Marks & Spencer was the greenest supermarket, followed by Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda.
According to the report, The Body Shop is the UK's greenest brand. Dove, Google, the Co-operative Bank and utility giant E.ON were also in the top 10.
The survey showed that one in three consumers is willing to spend more on green products, despite growing economic concern, and 75% said environmental buzz-words such as 'recyclable', 'renewable' and 'sustainable' influence their choices.
The report also revealed that 94% of consumers think products, especially grocery items, are over-packaged.
