Of the many people that have taught me a thing or two, Whitney Small, now head of corporate communications at Ford, stands out. 
She ran the teams in Asia for Disney Attractions during my time working for the company in Tokyo. From the first day, she set the tone for getting things done right.
Her no-nonsense approach got me and others to realise the value of preparation. She showed us that if we believed in an idea, then it was worth perfecting and pushing, even if it cost a bruise or two - which, of course, every good idea does.
Whitney also hammered home the concept of responsibility, that we would only really enjoy the fruits of our labour if we took the hits as well as the plaudits. There's a theme here - ouch! - but to this day the advice and 'tough love' she gave
has been rewarding.
