Orange to review in-store business

Orange, the UK's third-biggest mobile phone operator, is reviewing its in-store marketing account, which is currently held by BD Network.

Agencies have already been approached regarding the brief. A spokeswoman for Orange said: 'We are reviewing our agency support for retail marketing. We have asked several agencies for information, including BD Network.'

As well as working on the retail environment, BD Network's remit includes using press, digital projects, sales promotions and communications tool kits to support in-store activity.

Last month Orange began trials of two store formats. If successful, it will roll them out across the UK.

The first store design, called 'Community', made its debut at a store in Monmouth, South-East Wales, at the end of July, and encourages customers to make the most of their mobile.

The second, 'Multimedia', will be rolled out next month at an outlet in Milton Keynes. It is designed to drive customer trial of the latest multimedia technology for mobiles, such as music downloads, satellite navigation and email access.

Operating profits for Orange during the last financial year were down 7.5% to £1.1bn, with revenue also down 8.5%.

In June, the company announced it was cutting 370 UK jobs as it looked to improve efficiencies across the business.

O2 is the UK's market leader, followed by Vodafone.
