Another free-for-all: The London Weekly sets out its launch plans

LONDON - The London Weekly has begun talks with media agencies ahead of a multi-channel launch campaign due to break across TV, radio and online in January.

The first issue of the freesheet will be published in February but according to a source at the paper, the marketing campaign has been created in-house and has been in planning since last year. That means the Global Publishing Group had planned to launch the paper before daily freesheets thelondonpaper and London Lite closed in September and November respectively.

The independently-owned paper has been inundated with calls from prospective suppliers, including marketing agencies. It is understood it will not appoint a creative agency for the launch campaign but talks have begun with media planning and buying agencies.

The paper is still recruiting for its editorial and sales teams and is looking to hire staff who previously worked for thelondonpaper and the London Lite.

Roisin Robertson, editor at The London Weekly said: ‘Our marketing plan for the paper will be across Television, Radio and online. This will officially commence in January. More details will be released at the start of 2010'.
