The accolade follows a bumper year for the FMCG giant, which is now the UK's eighth biggest advertiser. Thomas has spearheaded a marketing strategy which has focused on creating and supporting 17 global power brands which have translated into stellar results for the company.

Thomas was followed in the top ten by Sainsbury's customer Gwyn Burr who took second place in the rankings following the a range of successful brand initiatives such as ‘Switch and Save'.

Burr was in good company, as six of the UK's top ten marketers were women; P&G's Roisin Donnelly, McDonald's Jill McDonald, Boots' Elizabeth Fagan, Camelot's Dianne Thompson and Aviva's Amanda Mackenzie all made the top ten.

There were a total of thirty seven new entries into the Power 100, including Daniel Ek, the founder and chief executive of music streaming service Spotify.
