Boots, Asda and Aldi launch green initiatives

 

LONDON - Marks & Spencer plans to launch a number of green initiatives across its portfolio of stores following the success of a new environmentally-friendly store piloted in Bournemouth.

The retailer will introduce about half of the features it uses in its Bournemouth store, which has a include grass roof and low-energy lighting.

Other retailers are also trialling green store concepts. Asda operates several timber-frame stores, and Aldi is preparing to open an eco-store in Ludlow, Shropshire.

Environmental strategies will be discussed at Marketing's upcoming Green, Ethical & Healthy Innovations Conference on 8 July. Marketers from retailers and manufacturers including Divine Chocolate, Cadbury Schweppes, Tesco, The Co-operative Group, Lush, V Water and Eat Natural will discuss how companies can tap into consumer demand for products and services that reflect concerns for environmental, ethical and healthy living.

What a load of tosh!

What difference does a building made of wood with grass on the roof make?

Modern buildings must adhere to strict builing controls anyway.

Seems like too much of a gimmick!! As for low energy bulbs-whi would spend more in poor quality light?
