The national tourism body has created a website - www.visitbritain.com/football - for tourists to find out fixtures, their favourite players as well as a guide to tourist attractions in and around teams' home grounds. The site launches later this month.
Visitors to the website can check ticket availability for all Premier League Club fixtures and purchase them through official ticket outlets. The site will also help promote Britain as a tourist destination for business visitors, highlighting conference facilities at stadia venues.
In recent years, the Barclays Premier League has become the world's most watched domestic football league, with an estimated cumulative global audience of over 4.5 billion.
VisitBritain hopes that the diversity of the Premier Leagues stars - such as Portugal's Christiano Ronaldo and Brazil's Robinho - will help attract visitors to the UK. Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said: ‘The Barclays Premier League is now watched in over 200 countries around the world and our clubs are more involved in their own communities than ever before. This means they, as ambassadors for their local areas, are ideally positioned to promote their cities both at home and abroad.'
