The retailer will also launch its first privilege card for customers who spend more than £50, which allows them to receive an additional 10% off every thing, throughout May. The activity is set to save customers £15 million in May with additional price cuts of up to 50% on popular home improvement products.

The Easter and May bank holiday periods are traditionally the busiest sales periods for DIY retailers as people begin home and garden improvement projects.

Kingfisher, B&Q's parent company, announced earlier in the year that in its preliminary results for the year ended 31 January 2009 sales were down 4.5% in total, with kitchen and bathroom ranges down 8% and sales of core DIY and room makeover products down 3%.
