LONDON - The Trabant, a symbol of Communist East Germany, is to be reborn as an environmentally-friendly electrical car and will be be unveiled at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
Famous for its poor reliability and the ability of its two-stroke engine to produce vast amounts of smoke, the Trabant, whose name means ‘foot soldier', has a vastly higher spec than its predecessor.
The petrol gauge on the original Trabant was a dipstick and extra heating came from a rug under the back seat. The new Trabant nT will feature solar panels, and emergency petrol tank and a range of 150 miles between charges.
Will the new model have a body be made of plastic too? Maybe they'll recycle the old ones.
