‘Buy One Get One Free - Later' has been introduced by Tesco to help households lower their amount of waste. Customers who use the service will be able to pick up their free product when they need it. They will also be able to use a new home energy service from Tesco to get advice on insulation and renewable sources of energy in their homes.
Speaking at the launch of the report - ‘Consumers, business and climate change' published by Manchester University's Sustainable Consumption Institute - Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive at Tesco, said that customers needed to be involved in solutions to cut carbon emission levels.
Leahy said that Tesco was committed to becoming a zero-carbon business by 2050 without purchasing offsets and announced new initiatives to help achieve this.
Tesco is aiming for a 30% reduction by 2020 in the carbon impact of the products in its supply chain. It is also extending green Clubcard points to encourage environmentally friendly, carbon-conscious purchasing.
