Office of Fair Trading orders Ryanair to be clearer in its advertising about prices and charges

LONDON - Ryanair has been forced to increase the clarity and transparency of its advertising and website following an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading.

Office of Fair Trading orders Ryanair to be clearer in its advertising about prices and charges

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) referred the airline to the OFT last year after it persistently breached ASA rules on misleading advertising. Since the referral more than 100 complaints to the ASA have not been investigated.

Ryanair has agreed to provide clear information about its price guarantee and qualify as necessary any statements on lowest prices claims. It will also give more prominence to links on its website and in email promotions that contain information about optional services and charges such as for checked-in baggage.

Under the agreement with the OFT, Ryanair will also have to give more prominence to terms and conditions applicable to promotional offers such as the days or dates on which offer prices are not available.

The action concludes the OFT's consideration of the ASA referral.
