Cillit Bang used to clean nuclear waste

LONDON - Nuclear experts are using household cleaner Cillit Bang to clean radioactive stains at a UK nuclear power plant after watching an ad that showed dirt being stripped from a 10p coin.

One of the members of team at the plant suggested using the £1.99 Reckitt Benkiser product after seeing the TV campaign aimed at household users.

The Reckitt Benckiser-owned brand is being used to remove plutonium stains at the defunct Dounreay nuclear power plant in Scotland.

David Hanson, project manager with Dounreay Site Restoration, said Cillit Bang was helping to drive down the £2.6bn cost of demolishing the site.

A spokesperson for the brand said: ‘While this is not a usage we had anticipated, and it isn't included in the pack directions, we are very pleased to hear that Cillit Bang is making light work of the job at Dounreay.  The team there is learning what regular users have long known - Cillit Bang is a truly multi-purpose cleaner.'
