RE: LOCOG puts brands on alert over 'ambush' ads
Personally, I'll stand up for the media owners on this and suggest that this could be restraint of trade. Another example of LOCOG heavy hand. See ticket allocation cock up. By all means restrict logos or rip off associations in legal terms, but when it comes to stopping media owners taking business it isn't fair. In the case of outdoor there was a very good and open bidding ability ran through MediaEquals that allowed all sponsors either direct or via their agencies to bid for special or local Olympic sites. The window on that is now closed. If a sponsor did not bid, I think the outdoor media owner has every right to sell it to whoever wants to buy it at whatever price they can get. If I was Nike,I'd be making my offers now.
Re: RE: Am I being sidelined?
Are there any selling associations which I can join? since I feel what I need at this stage is face to face gathering. The traditional route is not working for me.
RE: FA to announce Budweiser as new sponsor in June
This is an interesting return for beer in UK domestic football after brands like Carling and Carlsberg left it and it will be interesting to see how Budweiser rises to the challenge. The work on 'We do the beer, you do the football' was great so things should be promising. Budwesier obviously has huge awareness and associations of what the brand is about but the issue may be affinity and perhaps the FA Cup is a way of building this. But ultimately we will need to fall in love with both Budweiser and the FA Cup if it is going to work \(no offense Man City & Stoke but it wasn't exactly a dream final).
RE: Robinsons 'squash for all' by BBH
I listened again last night when it came on the box - 'the man' at work with his rules means I can't watch / listen to stuff via my 'office terminal'. What you say \(Stanley and Sue) about the scripting is right - it's a bit stilted and sounds like lines the kids rehearsed... but the visuals - Shane Meadows - captures something that feels genuinely British \(without the xenophobia usually associated with the phrase) - it's got warmth, comfort, homeliness and feel good - not bad associations for Robinsons. It could've been better, but i don't think it's bad - or is it just fan-blindness on my part for Shane Meadows?
Re: Is Twitter a passing fad?
Be it to make associations with others in the same industry, earn advocates, or apply it's actual time search to witness out about what's becoming on locally, or about a spare-time activity of theirs.
RE: Starbucks drops 'coffee' from logo as it eyes brand extensions
I like the fresh, approachable look and feel of the de-brand, sorry I meant re-brand. I wonder whether consumer research influenced dropping the name 'Starbucks' from its packaging, a name that seems to stir up negative associations in neighbourhoods across the UK?
RE: Alan Partridge returns in ad-funded Foster's activity
I like that mug for some reason. Great product placement from North Norfolk Radio! Great about the Edinburgh slots. I have done PR at several venues. I can see the advert appealing to alot of people. The brand sponsporship and having the logo splashed onto television screens espescially Channel Four will have great cheap impact. Associations ahoy! Also I like Jane Geraghty, amd Nakeds commitment to a further comedy series by Foster's next year. Dara
RE: Ryanair wins battle to take control of I Hate Ryanair domain
This is brilliant, weird and confusing. I have a .co.uk domain. Someone else sets up a.com version and rings me up to flog it to me. Tries to make money from me by stealing my brand. Nominet does nothing about this genuine issue that hits lots of smaller businesses. Yet Ryanair seems to be able to own its negative brand associations. The issue is making money from selling the connections otherwise it could continue. Now that Ryanair own it, they can put up whatever camoflagesite to negate rage or redirect business. The traffic someone else built is theres. Though to build a new site on the domain would means some concessions to passengers....which it wont do. Surely what this guy did is not much different to what Affilliates, review sites do good & bad. Where is the line to be drawn? Do we stop comparison sites, will movie companies stop negative reviews, will Wayne Rooney stop the Sun. I think they make money out of negative traffic. What is most ludicrous is that this is a very clear site. It does not pretend to be Ryanair, it says it hates it. I suggest he takes Ryanair to court on restraint of Freedom of Speech. Surely this is what it is. A newspaper can have editorial integrity, slag off a brand and sell ads next to the editorial. You can buy banner ads next to key words in editorial. You can buy "I hate ryanair" as a search term if you are Easyjet. He should have been paid by Ryanair for the property he created based on traffic as the ruling. In which case, they'd never buy it off him.
RE: Coca-Cola to launch cookery book through Harvey Nichols
Err, this is a terrible piece of marketing. Or have i missed the irony? I can think of endless relevant associations for Coca Cola, but not home cooking. It just looks desperate for all involved, none of whom remotely need this low level, tacky activity. Alex James, you should be ashamed of yourself - please tell me you've been duped?
RE: Coca-Cola to launch cookery book through Harvey Nichols
I think this is a great opportunity for Coke, certainly something that I would buy as a novelty item, particularly in the run up to Christmas if it's out for then. Also, while some may associate Coke as a brand alongside McDonalds, this doesn't essentially have to rule out partnerships with higher end brands like Harvey Nicks; Coke has in my mind two brand associations, that of generation X cool and secondly the nostalgia of our past, particulaly after all the Christmas Coca Cola related advertising over the years, and I think this ties in nicely with Harvey Nicks and Christmas
