RE: Clear Channel calls in consultants

Media Week 7th July 2010 \(http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/news/1014860/Clear-Channel-appoints-BT-marketer-its-new-chief-executive) "Dearden will be responsible for devising the strategy for the long term growth of Clear Channel's British business...... Eccleshare said: "Matthew has outstanding experience as a marketer and as a business leader. Under Matthew's energetic and intelligent leadership I'm confident we will take Clear Channel UK to new heights." Dearden said: "I'm passionate about the technology, media and the telecommunications sector and media is the thing that most excites me. Media is at the heart of marketing which is at the heart of business and making sure commerce fits consumers' needs." And after 18 months in the job the "strategy" to "take Clear Channel UK to new heights" is to bring in Ghostbusters to "examine how the national sales team works". Really? What have you been doing then for the past 18 months? Presumably this is McKinsey review is to run in parallel to the other review of national sales that acting sales director ,Richard Bon ,has been asked to conduct? And when they're both finished which findings will be implemented if they come to differing conclusions ? The one undertaken by someone which a depth of experience of the company and the market or the one undertaken by the text book scribblers yet to run a bath competently? I'm with Mark Palmer. You couldn't make this up.And I don't see what was wrong with the old "strategy".Of simply reading the joint memo from the Big Two buying companies and adhering rigidly to its "recommendations".If its good enough for the other media owners......

CREATIVE STRATEGY: John Lewis tugs the heart strings (and the purse strings)

Is there anything left to say about the John Lewis Partnership Christmas TV commercial? Perhaps. First there is the gag about what's in the box that the wee lad takes into his parents' bedroom on Christmas morning - his sister's head?
